400 Gig Solutions

Looking to forward up to 200-300gig of traffic at L2. I know we have 400gig Switches that are L3. Just confirming my thoughts.

  1. Even though L3 is impended, there is no device that can ingest up to say 200gig and pass it though to the forwarding engine. .. example. Even a 2216 cannot ingest either VPLS/MPLS or VxLAN, that fast, as its not hardware offloaded enough? Or maybe there are gotchas?.
  2. MPLS/VPLS cannot be passed though the 400 gig L3 switch without hitting the CPU. So, this is not an option to pass 200gig though. Only L3 raw IP packets can be passed though (currently).
  3. Currently, with 400gig devices, we can pass IP packets though at wire speed, but that is all, no MPLS/VPLS. Plus if we COULD get the VxLAN to ingest that quick, then yes we would be able to route it.
  4. Another thought, is if using CRS devices, they SHOULD be able to forward VxLANs in hardware? therefore they SHOULD be able to ingest a VLAN at 200+gig, and then the rest of the forwarding devices are all hardware as well. ? Correct?
