411AH - Ether1 not working after upgrade to ROS 6.0

Hi,

I just upgraded a 411AH to Router OS 6.0 and after the reboot I am not able to connect via ether1
I can’t ping the unit from a PC on the same subnet, I can’t ping the default gw from the serial console of the unit either.

Did a system reset, reconfigured the IP address and GW, still no luck.
I verified that the interface is enabled, I connected a ethernet cable directly between the PC and router, still the same issue.

What could be wrong?

Can you connect with mac-telnet through eth1? Do the lights on the port come on?

The lights come on as expected when working as intended.
Unfortunately I do not have another Routerboard here that I can run the mac-telnet from, and it doesn’t work with winbox to find it either.

Sorry, I meant mac-winbox, not mac-telnet.

You need to make sure that mac-winbox actually works from your computer though. Many times, it is the PC that causes mac-winbox not to work because of windows firewall, and virtual network adapters (virtualbox, vm server, etc…) So you think the router isn’t responding to mac-telnet when if fact it is the PC not working.

winbox works fine, as I used it to upgrade the 411AH from 5.9 to 6.0

Can you downgrade 6.0 to 5.25 using xmodem?
I tried by interupting the boot, sent the upgrade package for 5.25 over xmodem but it complained about invalid upgrade id or similar.

You should be able to downgrade with hyperterm. I’d recommend 5.24 not 5.25…
I had a similar issue (Ethernet flopping ) with my 411a and solved it by changing firmware version…
I’m now running fine with firmware 2.41 and Ros 5.24…
Good luck…

How did you manage to downgrade it?
When I try all I get is the following

file transfer ok
invalid upgrade file id

Ok, now it works, after the 100th reboot or so after a failed attempt of upgrading/downgrading via serial, it just works with ether1.
I’ll see if it stays that way.

Edit:

Nope, stopped working after the first reboot, rock solid this thing

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Bootloader_upgrade

after firmware file transfer with xmodem Run command /system routerboard downgrade
Reboot your router to apply the downgrade (/system reboot)]

I managed to upgrade it to 6.1, same issues.
Will try and downgrade whenever it lets me to 5.24

IMHO you should downgrade the firmware separately before going for Ros downgrade…

So, I can’t downgrade it as I can’t get the ether1 working properly, not even to do netinstall.
The 6.0 was that even tested against the 411AH ?

I guess I have to just throw the thing in the trash at this point as I can only downgrade the bootloader via RS232 and that has no real effect on the issue.

What is printed in console when the router makes “boot over Ethernet” to Netinstall PC?

Ok, I was just about to give up on this router but when I moved it and booted it the ethernet works.
Now after more testing I found that the ether1 doesn’t work if I issue system reboot or from the winbox.
It will never work then, if I power cycle the unit by unplugging and plugging the DC back in it never works.

But if I unplugg the power and leave it unplugged for a minut or so, then it works on every boot.

What could be the cause of this?

You should check the board for physical damage and bulging capacitors.
If everything looks fine, maybe try another power supply.
What is the output of “/system health print”?

Hi,

No physical damages on the board, no bulging capacitors at all

[admin@MikroTik] > system health print
voltage: 12.3V

The PSU is a 12V, I can see if I can find another PSU but it’s strange that it requires a cold boot to work.
