4G USB Modem Setup

Hi - I’m new to routerboard and networking beginner. I have an rb750up and would like to use a Pantech UML295 USB modem with it (Verizon 4G/LTE).

When I plug the modem into the USB port the modem comes on, but I’m not able to get to the internet. (Just plugging the USB modem into my macbook works fine)

Going to Interfaces > lte1 > Info… a box comes up with the message “Couldn’t start - Modem does not have a serial interface! (6)”

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Graham

Hi do you use latest version 6.28 ?

Does under system resources usb they show
vendor=“Pantech, Incorporated” name=“PANTECH UML295”
vendor-id=“0x10a9” device-id=“0x6064”

Yes. I see that.

Did you add dhcp-client to lte interface ?
Also add masquerade rule to LTE interface under IP Firewall NAT

/ip firewall nat
add action=masquerade chain=srcnat out-interface=lte1

Thanks for the help on this … turns out to be pretty easy.

YES - dhcp-client on lte1

YES - nat masquerade on lte1

Was a boneheaded config issue on the computer. Dopeslap self.

Thanks again.

Cheers,
Graham

For the benefit of the community - what was the derpa-derpa issue?

I made a mistake in the network config on my computer. Wrong IP for the router … ruins it every time.
X.X.X.10 instead of X.X.X.1
