4M line dsl speed, how to control speed and bandwidth for users in my network?

hi all,

i have 4M line dsl speed for my network, and i want to control speed and bandwidth for users in my network.

i want to know the best speed equation to split the speed between users, or the best way for 4M speed .

can anyone help me plz ?

How many people will be using the 4Mb line?

You should be able to accomplish this with simple queues; whether you use winbox, webconfig or terminal.

Here’s the wiki link on using the terminal
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Bandwith_control_on_ADSL_link

You can also use Winbox and access queues via the Queues button on the left side in the menu.

Basically all you need to do is create a queue and give it a name.

Set the target for the IP or IPs you wish to limit the speed of. If you only wish to limit the speed when accessing certain sites you can do that as well, leave it blank for any destination.

Then you can set the max upload and download of the connection. This will limit how much bandwidth the users can take.

You can also set the burst settings as well. You can give them a slight burst in speed, typically what most ISPs call “turbo boost.”

You can set the burst time, in other words how long the burst in speed is allowed.

The Time menu allows you to decide when the rule is in effect. By default it is in effect all days at all hours.

To touch on queues some more. You can actually create multiple queues for the same IP. For instance, you can set it up so people can take advantage of more of the available bandwidth during the night when most people would be sleeping.

For simple queues you would only need to divide the available bandwidth by the number of users. With that in mind you can “oversubscribe” as well. What that entails is let’s say you have 10 users. Not all 10 would be on at the exact same time. So try and figure out what the average number of users and divide by 400 (Kbits).

If you run into the issue where more people are on you can always adjust it down. You can also set it up where not everyone receives equal share. You can manually set the max speed per user’s IP however you wish.

Sorry. Wrong post.
