5.7 Manual Documentation in PDF, whole manual

I know the WIKI is there and you can eventually make a “book” but I would like the whole manual in PDF so in case the router is down I can read something about it and hopefully get it back again.

Is there such a PDF?

No, there is not. The best you can do is print out a couple of sections at a time in PDF format, and then merge them manually (the site crashes when asked to compile all sections at once).

Bummer, really. I wouldn’t mind if MT compiled the official wiki pages into a PDF manual and updated it every time an official wiki update is made. It’s really not very hard to automate.

That would be really nice to have.

Bummer for sure. I bet no matter which ones I THINK I need I will not have them. I usually have a 2nd internet connection on a different router, so that would be good. But today I in am in the process of upgrading 3.28 to 5.7 and have a single connection. I had to put on 4.x first. it took FOREVER to boot and I was just thinking what the heck I would do without the manual if it didn’t come back up. Now I at at 4.x I am wondering if I want to try 5.7 or not!

I found out how to get the whole manual into a PDF, accidentally…

Go to the manual wiki: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Category:Manual

Click CREATE A BOOK at the top… then click on START

The you will be back where you started, click on ADD CATEGORY TO YOU BOOK

After a few seconds the is says SHOW BOOK (222 Pages)

Click on SHOW BOOK

The click on CREATE PDF. The file is 23 MB so right click and SAVE AS … etc

It created 880 pages, not sure if they are in order, but you can search the PDF and I think everything is there.

Looks like Pediapress fixed their bug finally. Now you can create large books!

After you add the category “Manual” to your book, and click “View Book”, you can then remove unneeded articles, reorder them, make chapters etc. When you are done, make a title, and click DOWNLOAD PDF! It works now.

Previously, the plugin we use (same that Wikipedia uses) had a filesize limitation, and now it seems it’s increased.

I appears since the layout of the Wiki changed you the manual doesn’t appear to be a category. It just says “Add this page to your book”. Or am I doing something wrong?

go here first: http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Category:Manual

Note that CSS and HTML used in the wiki markup are only partially evaluated when generating PDFs.

Thanks, been wondering about this for quite some time and just hadn’t asked.

I try to create the PDF but always an error i hope if any one have the PDF can upload it

i can’t create the PDF can any one upload it for me ?

PDF generator tool is discontinued by the plugin creator, there is nothing we can do to fix. I suggest using online manual only

thanks for the answer i like paper more but i will try my luck

normis,

Here is an extension that i think can solve the problem. https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/OCG

Yes, Collection is the one we use, same as in your link.

That’s great if you aren’t in the middle of configuring it and don’t have connection :frowning:

How would you have gotten the PDF then, if you didn’t have a connection? If you knew beforehand that you won’t, you could use just any PDF tool to make your PDF

The manual is very large, thousands of pages. Organizing it into any kind of structure is not easy.
