500mA fan connector RB333

hi,

i have tried to use the fan connectors to use with a xenon beacon to mark our AP’s for customers to see if they have line of sight. the xenon beacon works with 12-100V DC and is taking a current of 170mA at 24V in operation. i have actually measured that current, according to the datasheet its 150-175 mA. unfortunately ever since i cant switch between the fans and the voltage is not 24V as before its 15V. the board is connected to a 24V powersupply and the “health” reading does show 24V. has someone else experienced similar problems ? is the fan connector maybe not for 500mA at all ? the documentation does say 500mA.

regards
Jan

Go to system/health and set fan-mode=manual. Set use-fan=main. Then connect your beacon to upper row of JP403 according to negative and positive marks.

hi denny,

i know the settings for the fan connector, it is set to manual and by changing between aux and main i was able to switch between the fans (reading on volt meter), but ever since i can’t switch between anymore and i don’t have the full voltage from the powersupply on any of the 2 connections. changing from aux to main or even setting it to auto makes no difference. on auto mode without a speed signal it would constantly switch between the 2 outputs which it does not anymore.

i imagine the documentation was a bit optimistic about 0.5A current on the connections. or i have a faulty board which did not cope with even less than 500mA.
