5725 – 5875MHz frequency availability by country

“In Ireland, from July 2002, wideband data transmission systems for the provision of fixed wireless access networks/metropolitan area networks (FWA/MAN) in the 5.8GHz (5725 – 5875MHz) band have been permitted up to a maximum radiated power of 2W eirp on a licence exempt basis.”

When I set the following on a wireless interface, the 5725 – 5875MHz options are not available :

Band - 5GHz
Frequency mode - regulatory domain
Country - Ireland

I am only offered frequencies from 5180-5320MHz & 5500-5700MHz. Shouldn’t the 5725 – 5875MHz frequencies also be available with these settings? I am using WLM54AG wireless cards.

They’ll be addressing that soon I believe.

Hmm… but according to that post we have to wait for OS3 :exclamation:

Considering how easy it must be to update the frequency lists, one does wonder why they will not do so. I have been trying to get the UK one sorted for well over a year now with no success. They just don’t seem interested.

it is not easy to update it, the list comes from the atheros driver.

So if I understand you correctly, you are saying that it is Atheros that provide the country by country list of what channels can be used?

that is what i said. they are using the official ETSI lists, so if your country has some special internal regulations that differ, they don’t know about it. in v3 we will have a different technique for this, so it will be easier to update it

Ah, I see.

Many thanks for explaining that.

Roll on version 3

In the meantime, what would be the recommended method of getting a 5800MHz signal and making sure that the signal would meet the Irish requirements of not exceeding 2W with a 28dBi antenna and assuming 3db loss for cable & connectors? Thanks.

You will need Superchannel on the Mikrotik. That gives you access to all the channels supported by the radio card.

As for the eirp requirements, that will always be down to you rather than the Mikrotik unit.
