Hi,
I am fiddling with wifi on the hAP ac² hardware. Up to the moment I’ve been using the 2GHz band and now would like to make fuller use of the hardware by using the 5GHz.
This is where I ran into problems. 5GHz is not as simple as setting up the 2.4GHz,
With the 2.4GHz band, I could simply leave the settings close to default and everything works right out of the box.
- Band = 2GHz-only N
- Channel Width = default (first value)
- Frequency = default (first value)
With the 5GHz band, doing the same, none of the laptop, desktop, android phones (checked that it supports up to 802.11ac) is able to detect the 5GHz signal.
I have read articles about 5GHz wifi, none mentions about channel width. A Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eij5rL1Y5Jo&list=PLW_VqFPIJ-PZusxbct4NEvPTsQn3lF_tR&index=5&t=0s video that I came across briefly mentions that I have to operate on the higher end of the frequency 5785 (Channel 157), 5795 (Channel 159) that majority of laptop and phones are able to “see” 5GHz.
So my question is, is that true, only few channels are detectable by laptop, desktop, android phones? Yet, the list of channels available on the 5GHz is much wider https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#5_GHz_or_5.8_GHz_(802.11a/h/j/n/ac/ax) than 2.4GHz.
Right now, my current 5GHz setting is as follows and it works.
Thanks.
