I have a 751U running 5.12 and have it connected to an Apple Airport which is in bridge mode connected to our firewall which is also a DHCP server. Computer is plugged into port 2 and I cannot ping anything outside the 751U and also it will not pull any webpages.
Is there something else I need to config to get this to work.
You need to put the wireless and the ethernet on the same bridge on the mikrotik. This way, the PC will get DHCP from your other firewall and it will pass directly through the mikrotik.
I’m pretty sure you need WDS (or station-bridge) to pass DHCP from one router THROUGH another like you are trying to do. But since you have an Apple AP it won’t work.
This is standard mode that does not support L2 bridging on station - attempts to put wireless interface in bridge will not produce expected results. On the other hand this mode can be considered the most efficient and therefore should be used if L2 bridging on station is not necessary - as in case of routed or MPLS switched network. This mode is supported for all wireless protocols.
I also tested this in our lab. After about 5 minutes I pulled an address 1 time but could not get it to pull again. Even after I pulled an address the one time I could not even ping the gateway or any other devices on the network. Station pseudobridge, station wds, and station bridge all worked fine.
as cbrown says it matters whether the AP supports WDS if connecting using a mikrotik cpe, compartibility comes into play, some AP’s will not support wds from other vendors
If I understand the transparent bridge requirement then this really can only be achieved if the AP is another MikroTik radio is this correct.
If not then do we know which radio’s a transparent bridge can be achieved.
On the other hand can I not request dhcp to be handled by another dhcp server up the food chain and has anybody tested this. I have seen that a long dhcp request can fail if not set up correctly or if the radio have issues passing the request through to many hops.
I think this thread is getting of subject at the moment. The actual question dealt with what is required to get a MikroTik Client Radio to connect to any AP out of the box.
What are the exact steps required, as there does seem to be several to get it to work. One thing that I ran in to was not being able to put all ports in the same bridge.
