802.11n ready to go live?

I am putting up a new AP, looking hard at an N solution.

I’ve read plenty of info on ptp links, dual chain and single chain, and I haven’t yet found info related to my question.

I am looking at building a 2 chain N AP for single chain clients. Has anyone tried this yet?

My other question is regarding R52NH as an AP for ptmp. I’ve only found one report of this in use, didn’t mention how many clients, whether it was mixed, etc…

It sounds like N is really close, but not quite there yet. How is the R52N working in A or G mode? If that is working fine, I can always deploy the N hardware in G or A then upgrade to a more stable version.

Just looking for info before I put yet another box aprox 180ft higher than I like to go…

We have deployed quite a few like this using UBNT dual pol sectors with rockets for AP and single pol panels with bullets for CPE.
We try to alternate between installing the panels in vertical and horizontal.

The R52Hn looks promising but after the simplicity of screwing a Bullet to a panel, I’m very reluctant to go back to drilling holes and all the other work involved in building a rootenna with a routerboard.

We now use mostly UBNT for the layer 2 wireless AP/CPE link and RB750(G) or RB450(G) for the networking tasks that were performed on the routerboard AP/CPE before.

How are your upload speeds vs download speeds?

I guess with your vertical and horizontal differences splitting your customer base, you won’t really see the dual chain benefit your per customer bandwidth, will you? I was planning on two omni, same polarity.

If I can make the signal more reliable, I’ll sleep better during bad weather. I am also curious as to whether the dual chain at the AP will have the most effect on the download or upload from the CPE, sounds like it will increase reliability regardless, even if run in G or A.

I guess my next batch of parts will include a couple of N cards so I can test it myself.
