I’m trying to get an Engenius ECB9500 to work as a WDS repeater with a Mikrotik RB433AH using 802.11n. They work fine together if I use 2.4 GHz b, g, or b/g, but as soon as I switch the Mikrotik to any N band, they stop communicating.
I’ve noticed that the Mikrotik only has options for 2GHz or 5GHz when using N. No option for 2.4GHz. I suspect that this is the problem, even though the frequencies listed for 2GHz are exactly the same as the ones listed for 2.4. Engenius only supports 2.4GHz, which I thought was pretty standard.
I’m testing this by pinging from the Mikrotik to the Engenius. As soon as I change the Mikrotik to anything other than 2.4GHz, the ping starts timing out.
So I disabled WDS in both devices (probably should have done this before posting in the first place) and the problem persists. I have the Mikrotik set up as an AP and the Engenius as a client with IP’s statically assigned. Same as before, I’m pinging from the Mikrotik to the Engenius successfully when both devices are set to B or G, but as soon as I switch both of them to N the ping fails and I lose connectivity.
There is some communication between the devices in N mode. They detect each other’s MAC addresses and the IP I’m using the the Engenius pops up in the Mikrotik’s ARP list. I’m just not sure why exactly it’s not working, or where to go from here.
Any advice would be appreciated (even if it’s just to tell me I’m a noob and the devices aren’t compatible ).
