We’re looking at trying a Mikrotik 900 setup as we’ve heard good things. We have a long host of NLOS situations and have been using UBNT but it isn’t always up to the task.
I’m curious if anyone can provide recommended setups based on both OMNI and Directional setups.
Mikrotik only has 1 900MHz ap… The Metal 9. We just used 16 of them for a mesh in a large apartment complex where all the buildings are stucco with metal lathe (a problem for 2.4GHz and a nightmare for 5GHz) and they worked well. We paired each with a Metal 2 for the clients to connect to and use a PowerBOX and a BaseBox2 as a router and LTE gateway.
The only downside to 900 is that the band is only 26MHz wide so there’s only 1 non-overlapping 20HMz channel. If you can go down to 10MHz channels (which we did), then you have 2 of course.
The nice thing about the Mikrotik line is that they all run the same software, routers, aps, switches (with 2 exceptions), etc. rstp bridging works great across all devices and you can also use the HWMPplus mesh protocol across all as well.
