Do we have plans in making or compiling a linux version for winbox? Most releases uses the wine version which certainly has security issues and other problems. IF NOT PLEASE MAKE ONE. THANKS!!!
Most mikrotik deployment and integrators uses linux but mikrotik failed in this part. Mikrotik should be making this as priority!!!
Can they just put the source code online for us to just compile it! They are not selling this. They are selling the device and the router. So management software is not part of their product.!
yes it is.
take checkpoint or barracuda for example … similar case.
oh and making THIS a priority seems way over the top. there are by far more important issues to be handled and addressed by MT right now (just look at the rOS release topics if you need more about that)
Any work on portability should be spent on making it a browser app instead of supporting another OS.
With modern browsers it is possible to write something that looks like winbox but runs entirely in a browser window, and natively on every OS.
The only extra component required would be a small agent that manages MAC-level connections, and it could be combined with netinstall to have a single optional component for specialized MikroTik router access outside of the daily use over IP.
