Is anybody using Mikroitk ROS on dell power edge 2950 with simple queue bandwidth management in bridge Mode and some Firewall rule.
I just bought one today,
Netinstall won’t see the RAID (controller not supported)
Tomorrow i’ll give it back, and with a netinstall cd, i’ll try something that works.
Install RouterOS to a USB drive with the 2950.
The 2950 is a very old server, you are better to buy R210 or R310 to run RouterOS on.
well, as old as bios version 2006.
I’ve tried usb booting and it works, but i don’t feel like binding a Level 5 licence to a flash stick.
I’ll try to find one with a supported controller, and a IDE standard port.
I have install ROS 5.8 and working but when i ping to loopback adapter address 127.0.0.1 latency is lies between 5 to 10 ms .

well, i didn’t find any controller compatible, so I end up installing on a usb stick.
That was possible ONLY if i burned a netinstall cd, and from there, install to USB who was detected as SATA 1 hdd.
On Dell PowerEdge2950 only the back usb ports are bootable.
NIC’s are seen, and the dual xeon’s are seen as 4 Intel CPU’s.
My main concern was a sudden powerdown of the server, i’ll test that a little more (in this configuration, 24h of evaluation time seems very insufficient)
I know that licence in bond to the boot medium, in my case, a 4gb usb stick.
If i reformat the stick, after reinstall will I have the same softwareID ?
