About Port forwarding and external access...

Hey guys / gal’s.

I’m trying to do a basic vnc port forward but it seems to be getting the better of me.
One thing I’m wondering about is that you need to specify an “external” IP for the “In-Interface”.

Quite obviously yes, but when your dealing with PPPoE ADSL connections it is kind of hard
to pre determine what your IP is going to be for the rest of the month. So I’m trying to get
my head around this concept. This unfortunately is not the only trouble I’m having cause I tried this on one of my static IP’s and no luck ether.

I searched the forum and came up with
"http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/forwarding-to-ftp-server/12061/1
this thread. They kind of gave me the impression that I was at least on the right track.
But these settings aren’t working for me… I then moved the NAT rules up to the top but this didn’t do any magic.

I came across the VNC port forwarding section in the WiKi and it also stated that I should do as in the above mentioned thread. So maybe I’ve got a firewall setting that gets in the way?
Nothing seems to be blocking it when I try to access the vnc server - the filter rule counters all just stay right where they are…

I actualy don’t even know how to direct my question - cause I apear to be doing everything like “the book” says…and it still doesn’t work. I guess I’m hoping somebody also had this kind of trouble and had some wisdom on the subject.

For my firewall filter I used the one in the wiki as well… (http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Dmitry_on_firewalling).

Oh, and about external access - what firewall rule do I need to put in to allow external access to my router say from one static ip? This should be easier…

Any ideas? :open_mouth:
