Are RB1100AHx2 performance test results valid:
only for ports attached to the same AR8327 internal switch (i.e. between eth1 and eth5)
or
also these results are valid for ports on different AR8327’s (i.e. between eth1 and eth8)?
What about performance between eth11-eth13 and the eth1-eth10 ports?
Does RB1100AHx2 capable to handle full-duplex 1GB throughput on all 10 port simultaneously?
For example between eth1-eth6, eth2-eth7, eth3-eth8, eth4-eth9, eth5-eth10 in both direction.
What about full-duplex 1GB simultaneously between eth1-eth5 only (within single AR8327)?
Is it possible freely use any of eth1-eth13 ports for any purposes in any combination like switching (bridge), routing, VLAN, tagged VLAN (trunks)?
This would only be possible if you use it as a Switch with two Groups (Switch chips). As soon as you send traffic over the CPU (bridging, Routing, etc.), the Performance Drops quickly.
As I wrote above, this should be possible, if the traffic just get switched within the chip.
You can’t put all ports on the same Switch chip but everything else should work. (But not at wirespeed)
And if you want to do anything with the traffic in any switched port, packets will need to be passed to the CPU for processing and performance will be lower. That doesn’t mean that it should be “slow”.
Do you really need 13GBit simultaneous performance with firewall, nat, queues? Then maybe you need a CCR or something beefier.

CRS125-24G-1S-RM is another candidate for purchase.

I would like to now about flexibility of port usage and overall stability of CRS125-24G-1S-RM and issues like traffic loss under full load, non bootable/working system after OS upgrades, non working features and so on…
CRS125-24G-1S-RM is a “Cloud Router Switch”, which is a “Perfect SOHO gateway router, switch, all in one box” as Mikrotik describes it and has nothing to be with the CCR “Cloud Core Router” series that I sugested before.
In CCR all ports are connected directly to a Tilera network CPU, so no shared buses or chip switchs. I can’t speak about performance or reliability myself as I have only dealt with one unit yet. So far so good…
Yes, I understand the difference between CRS and CCR, but CCR is overkill for edge router/switch and budget.

I plan to use Mikrotik as a router between three 1Gb ISPs plus LAN, DMZ networks and as switch for DMZ.
As I understood all ports are on one switch. You can exclude ports from the switch and you can do routing. But the CPU is only 600MHz so you get low routing performance. So this will not be the device you need to route 3 1Gb Lines. For this you need the CCR.
Thus, the processing involving OS+CPU (like routing, firewalling etc) is limited by CPU performance and virtually equal to performance of Linux/PC-based router with the same CPU frequency?
And RB1100AHx2 routing performance should be better then for CRS125-24G-1S-RM because of two 1Ghz CPU?
I believe that you are making the wrong question. You should be asking yourself what performance do you really need, based on the intended usage of your router. If you really need to deal with sustained traffic of 3Gbps maybe no mikrotik router would fit in…
OTOH, basically yes, performance is limited by CPU (and that depends on how much work you ask from it: mangle, queues, firewall, dyn routing and so on). But I don’t know how comparable are x86 CPU with MK CPU’s. Also keep in mid the block diagram i posted before.
Yes. The RB1100AHx2 is a way faster router. CRS is a switch. If you need a router buy a router . Look at the performance figures at routerboard.com to decide if you need a CCR or if a RB1100AHx2 is fast enough. I would opt for the CCR as it has some reserve.
