Has anyone connected a Mikrotik router to AboveNet?
I’m not ready yet, but I’m wondering how they well play together. I’ve heard that a lot of providers will blame the router if it isn’t Cisco or Juniper.
RouterOS BGP is compatible with Cisco and Juniper. So there shouldn’t be any problems to establish peering with provider that uses Cisco or Juniper routers.
Because it is compatible does not mean the provider will support you, regardless of who is at fault.
More often than not, I’d imagine it technically works just fine (or at least is capable of it), but the provider would be unwilling to help troubleshoot until it is one of the big names. I have heard of this happening in the past, and it is unfortunate.
