ac mini pci

Hi Guys,

First post, so please be gentle!

This is my first look at starting with a board and building my own setup, so I was wondering if there’s any way to include ac onto a routerboard such as the 493G, and what solutions are out there for housing and mounting antennas on boards using multiple cards with multiple chains?

I’ve been looking around all over and can’t find any reference to an 802.11ac mini PCI, only PCI-e, and any housings I can find have only enough antenna mountings for the built-in wireless of that board.

Any suggestions, help, tips would be greatly appreciated!

I came here looking for the same thing. I have an infrastructure of RB435Gs and other RBs, all with multiple miniPCI slots and dual-chain 802.11n (5GHz) radios. I would love to be able to upgrade the radios in situ to dual-chain 802.11ac, and I’m astounded that I can’t find an ac radio in that form factor. If MT thinks it is an acceptable upgrade path to scrap each RB (in one housing with one PoE line, passing data between radios at bus speed) and replace it with 3-5 standalone devices (in 3-5 housings with 3-5 PoE lines, passing data between radios at wire speed), I hope they rethink that.
