I’m currently trying to figure out which brand of network devices I want to use for our new home (network). In order to get a better feeling about MikroTik configuration I thought the best way would be to borrow an old MikroTik hAP from work and play with it. Background: I’m an IT guy with good Linux knowledge, limited networking knowledge and no clue about MikroTik hard- and software yet.
However the start wasn’t so smooth so far. In the beginning I wasn’t able to do anything at all with the router, the USR LED was constantly blinking. A normal reset didn’t help. So I performed a NetInstall with the latest RouterOS. That worked out fine - at least the USR LED is off now, however I still can’t connect. I connected my computer to LAN 2, no Internet connection via LAN 1. According to the manual (https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/UM/hAP) there should be a WiFi SSID visible in default configuration, but there is none. Via LAN I don’t get a IP via DHCP. And when I manually set my IP to 192.168.88.2 I also can’t access the webend on 192.168.88.1 or even ping the IP.
Is the router dead or what am I missing?
