I have had my 951ui-2hnd for a couple of weeks now and I think its the greatest thing! I use it in my home network, and also to assist in my studies of networking technology. I do have a couple of questions. I have reviewed the documentation but I can’t find answers to these specific things.
First, I am wondering about the nature of checks performed in stateful packet inspection. Specifically, does the stateful packet inspection inspect layer three things like sequence numbers in tcp packets. From looking at the firewall connections table, I saw a number of connections time out due to lack of activity. This made me wonder if the firewall is aware of the fin-fin-ack sequence that closes a tcp connection. Also, when I look at my network with fireshark, I note things like duplicate acks, and out of sequence packets, and I wonder if these are the result of man-in-the middle attacks, and if enforcement of sequence numbers by the firewall would prevent them.
I think its an excellent firewall, and I just want to learn more about how it works.
I also have a general question about how bridging works. I have seen a little bit about this in the documentation, but it was not detailed enough for me to get a full understanding. If you can refer me to other documentation about this, I would be glad to review it.
