We originally installed with 3 Network Interface cards in the MicroTik PC. Now we’ve installed 2 more interfaces but they don’t show up. I assume this is because there’s no Kudzoo type process to pickup on hardware changes.
Is there something that can be done to force the detection of the new NICs ?
If not then can I use the CD-ISO install again without loosing my licence ?
(Understanding that the configuration may need to be reinput manually if the backup/restore doesn’t fly).
Thanks
S.
Check to see that the new hardware is on the supported hardware list.
Adding new hardware is easy if it is on the supported list. just install the new device and power on the box and it will be seen.
You may also need to deal with some hardware i/o conflict somewhare (not as likely any more).
Running an installation process is NOT nessisary to install new devices, they will be picked up upon startup.
I cant stress the supported list enough. If it is not there it probably WIL NOT show up after adding it to the box.

Thanks. The cards are all the same type. Intel Ether Pro cards. Which appear to be on the supported list…
Compatibility shows: Intel i82557/i82558/i82559ER/i82801BA-7 EtherExpressPro PCI cards
Installed NICs are all: 721383-008 Intel® PRO/100+ PCI (TP) PILA8460 82558, Full Duplex, 3 LEDs, No Mgmt
So… can I reinstall from the ISO without invalidating my licence and see if that works ?
You can, but this should not be the issue.
Look for something else.
Try other cards etc.

We have a boatload of these NICs, and I’ve tried several in the MT. They seem to be good in other systems… Fedora3, XP etc.
I thought that we originally built this box with only 2 interfaces and added a third after the fact, but really not sure now, could be that we added the other card before we licenced the box, which means that we re-installed the OS … Could be a resource too issue I suppose.
Thanks,
S.
Very wierd… it recognizes any two EtherPro NICs . But not more than that of that same type.
I installed another type of card (3Com) and viola shows up. Tried different slots etc with the Ether pro - no change.
Maybe it’s the BIOS ? It’s a Dell Optiplex GX110.
Oh well time to get some 3 Com cards
Thanks for the help
I’ve got the 4 port intel and it works fine, maybe you have an IRQ conflict or something? Can you check the /system resource pci listing and see if there are any conflicts?

Also,
try turning off parallel ports, serial ports, usb, anything that is not needed in the bios. Free up as many IRQ / IO ports as possible. Maybe your motherboard cannot handle the cards the same as other boards do.
