Why the Mikrotik RouterOS developers do not want to add an option “Address List Group”?
For example, It could be as a hierarchy system.
When you have a small network that is not big deal using only existing firewall features. But what if you have a huge amount of the different IP address lists?
I am trying to create the different IP address lists with different names, but all of them can have the same IPs. That is pain to support it.
I believe it should not be to complicated to add that feature.
I saw on internet some people do complain about the same question
The underlying mechanism in Linux does support that, but RouterOS does not expose it in the UI.
It should be relatively easy to add. But so are a lot of things that are requested here, that does not mean it is actually going to happen.
Most folks use a combination of interface lists as well as address lists.
Clearly address lists solve most issues of random IP addresses or subsets of IP addresses.
What is causing you to create large lists of IP addresses. Not normal requirement from what I have seen.
That may help us figure out some design.
I think it’s one of those things that will eventually get added. It can be useful and if it already exists inside, there’s no good reason to not add it. It’s just that there are many other useful things too and not all can be first.
