Address list limitations on number of entries

I am using address list to route some traffic through separate connection. My current list contains 1019618 entries. I’ve uploaded this list to my RB3011UiAS. After reboot my pppoe connection to my ISP disappeared from interfaces list. I did not notice any changes to other settings. If I try to create pppoe connection again I get action time out error. If I clear the address list and reboot the router I can see my pppoe connection again (even without creating it again). Previously a list with only about ~600000 entries worked without any problems.
On my RB1100AHx4 the same list with 1019618 entries works and I do not lose my pppoe connection there.

Is there a limit on number of entries for the address list? In terms of memory RB3011UiAS and RB1100AHx4 are similar so why does it work on RB1100AHx4 and does not on RB3011UiAS? (all the other settings are similar). Is there a better way of storing a large list for routing through a separate network?

If your list contains individual host addresses which are at least partly continous, then you could reduce the number of entries by merging the continous addresses to (small) subnets.

I the lust was:

20.20.30.13
20.40.50.42
20.40.50.43
20.30.66.77

then you could write it as

20.20.30.13
20.40.50.42/31
20.30.66.77

If the continous part is longer, use larger subnet mask (and reduction in number of entries is bigger).

Some parts of the list are continuous and can be shortened like this, but most of them are not. I also want to avoid routing extra addresses through this connection.
I get this addresses from a third party automatically and I want to avoid modifying it on my part as much as possible.
