I'm configuring two standalone Audience units, one is connected back to the router via Ethernet. The other Audience unit is connected back to the Ethernet Audience unit via wireless mesh. Everything works fine, just had to configure it all manually after updating the units to the long-term branch/wifi-qcom-ac package.
Questions:
1.) Any way to boost the signal strength/power on both units? Online searching says I shouldn't have to adjust this if I set the country to US, it just automatically maxes itself.
2.) How are people handling seamless roaming/client handoff between units? Historically I've seen people use the Steering area under each WiFi radio, but unsure if there's a better method.
Yeah, that's what I understood from your opening post. By using CAPsMAN, you can have the best roaming possible with MikroTik devices. Up to you to decide if you want to use it.
And always use wired backhaul when possible. Wireless backhaul will consume airtime.
Audiences have two 5GHz radios, one (IIRC the one covering upper part of 5GHz spectrum, with 4 Tx/Rx chains) is intended to be used for backhauling/meshing.
As to CAPsMAN: I'd run it either on central router (if it's Mikrotik) or on Audience which is connected to router with wire. On both Audiences configure the radios, used for backhaul/mesh, manually. On the wirelessly connected Audience point CAP to use that interface for communication with CAPsMAN. Then use CAPsMAN to provision the rest of radios ... and by default (if FT enabled) it will automatically configure steering and the rest of bits for (optimum) mobility.
