Advice needed – Best LTE modem for Bands 3/7/20 to connect to a hAP ax S

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice on choosing the “best LTE modem/ONT” for a setup where the main router will be a MikroTik hAP ax S.

Scenario / Requirements:

  • I need to receive LTE signal on Band 3 (1800 MHz), Band 7 (2600 MHz), and Band 20 (800 MHz) — the main bands available at my location.

  • The modem will be used strictly as an LTE receiver and then connected via Ethernet to the hAP ax S, which will handle all routing/firewall/Wi-Fi.

Question:

Which LTE modem would you recommend for this type of setup?
Ideally something reliable, with solid performance, and known to work well .

Thanks in advance for any feedback or hands-on experience!

New KNOT Embedded LTE4, but only Category 4.

Or wait for KNOT Embedded 5G.

If you want something more interesting, then t77w968 or t99w175 in usb box. Also supports full mikrotik esim functionality.

the new KNOT will propably need some external antennas?

at my location my signal at mobile it’s around 40/50% strengh

Yes, 2 sma antenna + one for gnss.

And why not to buy mikrotik already with lte modem?

any advice?

From cheap hAP ax lite LTE6 to greatest Chateau 5G R17 ax

That’s on my mind.. but I didn’t get any decision yet… thanks for your advice

hAP ax lite LTE6 can’t connect a external antennas :frowning:

It really depends on how close to a tower you are and how many other towers are in you vacinity. I would look toward either a SXTLTE6 kit or a LHGGLTE18. The former for close in coverage, the latter for towers that are further out. But again, until details are known, it’s hard to advise.

What I would ensure is that whichever to choose, they are up to date (modem firmware and rOS firmware), put into passthrough mode and enable RoMon so it can be accessed via the router.
