I need some advice on how to best solve the following issue:
My iPad/iPhone devices do not reliably roam between two APs in a big house.
Although a device is already close to an alternative AP, it still sticks to the previous one with bad signal strength.
I tried a setup with two WRT54GL running WDS under DDWRT. (same channel, same SSID)
This works better, however i am not satisfied and would like to know if there is any better solution for (almost) “seamless” roaming?
Maybe kicking the client with a rule when the RSSI is too low forcing it to connect to the stronger AP? (this is not possible with DDWRT i guess)
It is not clear from your question whether you have also Mikrotik APs or not; if you do, then yes, the idea of limiting signal strength and thus kicking the phone out when its signal becomes too weak does work on them, using wireless access list or capsman access list depending on how they are configured.
I actually only have two WRT54GL devices and don’t know if it’s worth exchanging them for Mikrotik APs.
If using WDS is definately the best solution, then i will stay with my WRT54GLs.
