Advice on latency issue.

Hello all,

I have a Mikrotik heX RB750Gr3 on a 480Mbps cable modem. Works great. I get full bandwidth through the Mikrotik.

I recently tried some of the cloud gaming services (meh) and noticed that the latency was far higher than other people in my area were getting. I didn’t think much of it.

Today I decided to plug my laptop directly into the cable modem and I immediately saw ping returns much more comparable to other people.

Not talking about 1-2ms… I’m seeing a drop of 15-20ms across the board

Tested multiple times with a direct connection to the cable modem, and a direct connection to the Mikrotik (and Cable modem) (no other devices connected).

My Mikrotik is running IPv4 and IPv6, has about 3 dozen NAT rules configured (including hairpin), a few queues (but I disabled them for testing), an IPSec VPN (not used), and that’s about it. At present, there are 67 devices on the network. I’ve tried disabling the hairpin NAT, the queues, VPN… no change.

So… any thoughts? It seems highly unlikely that the Mikrotik should be adding that amount of latency to the connection, so I assume I’ve messed things up SOMEWHERE - I just have no clue where? I’m up-to-date on whatever the latest stable firmware release is. Not sure what else to try?

Thanks for any suggestions!
John
