We have a new Allworx phone system. The phones have PFK’s set to Park Monitor for the Call Park locations on the system. With the Mikrotik (v 6.48.6) router in place all of the Park lights are solid yellow and do not work. With another router this doesn’t occur. Any Allworx users who can explain this and tell me what to do?
I have never heard of Allworx, but if normal calls work and it’s only the supervision of the parking positions that doesn’t, the first thing I’d try would be to disable the SIP helper in Mikrotik:
/ip firewall service-port disable sip
Already done. But I found the problem.
Apparently these phones are very sensitive to netmask settings. We have a /22 net, but most devices are in what could be a /24. The phone guy made an incorrect assumption and set the PBX to /24, but the phones were getting /22 from the DHCP server. Even though the phones and PBX are both addressed within the same /24 space, the phones were unhappy. All calling functions worked fine, but the Park Monitor buttons did not. (The phone guy had dropped in a Linksys router, which appeared to fix the problem because he set it for /24.) Correcting the netmask took care of it. I found someone else out there who had a similar problem, so it seems to be a thing with Allworx. They are supposedly based on Shoretel, but I don’t know if Shoretel exhibits this sensitivity as well.
The merge of phones and networking has introduced a situation similar to the one introduced by networked copiers: device specific technicians who are thrown into networking without really understanding it. It would help if they would ask for the network maintainer before doing their installations.
