Amp TX slightly on constantly?

I only use MT stuff.. so i had this one location where i was getting very weird throuput to my customers.

i drove all the way out there (2 hours) and noticed the tx on the amp was slighlty on.

so i brought a new amp, xr2, power supply for both mt and amp.

but even with the new amp the tx light slightly stays on as soon as i connect the antenna port..even with out teh radio side connected.

so its either the antenna, pigtale, or nmale cable.

anyone ever seen this and what was the cause?

tks

You’re using an amp with an xr2? Did you set manual card rates?
If you need to push your signal any further than the xr2 and say a 15-17dbi antenna will go (for multipoint), then you need a repeater, not an amp. Rule of thumb for best throughput with an amp - use an R52.

im well aware of all of this.. thanks.

anyone know whats going on between the amp and the antenna to cause this?

tks

Yes, mine shows “slightly on” all the time. It is called an SSID broadcast.

hi, tks for the reply.

i have a few of them, the ssid braod cast is a blink..this is a constant on. but slightly faint.

if i remove the antenna side i get the ssid blinking.

What amp are you using? I agree with eneimi. I have used linear amps in the past that did not like high power inputs. I don’t use amps now. The wireless cards available now have plenty of power.

I am not certain what you meant by “remove the antenna side”. Do you mean the output of the amp? Most high power amps will fail without an antenna or dummy load.

ADD: The formula I used for linear amps is simple.
Determine the output of the amp in db (1 watt = 30db), then subtract the gain of the amp in db. The result is the maximum input power in db.
