Another Hardware Idea..

Hey there, totally new to the Forum, i am very pleased with my RB4011, but since it ist my main Internet Gateway it does not suit very well for experimentation.

I am dreaming of a very simple device. 2 Gbit Ports, POE in / Out, GHz class quadcore arm, 256Gb RAM, 512 NAND, full Metal cast housing.

Especially for docker / PPPoE Client, Wiregard endpoint, Scripting Lab.

One can dream, right?

Rather pointless with only two interfaces with all that performance?

I don’t think that Router exist at the moment !
But keep on dreaming =)

The new RB5009UG+S+IN is very focused on Lab enviroment
And as a lot of the features you are looking for.

Alternatively,
All my colleagues at work use a Mikrotik hEX S
It’s a very nice Router to learn and experiment with for around 60$

I personally am on the road a lot,
So I needed a nice Travel and network Diagnostic-Router
With Features like:
→ PoE-In and PoE-Out
→ Wifi 2.4 and 5GHz
→ Bandwith-test, Monitoring-Tools…
→ VPN’s and more

I endet up using a Mikrotik CAPac
Designed and 3D-Printed a new housing for it
It’s not perfekt, but quite a nice Solution for my problem !

So NanoPi R4s with PoE In/Out and ROS onboard?

Is possible to install RouterOS x86_64 inside,
netinstall MkroSD with windows / linux and put inside the bay.

Probably also CHR because “probably” support also ESXi or similar…

I hope one day update that with also 5GHz,

Thanks for all the feedback,

especially to XVO, i did not know about the NanoPi R4S. Now i want one!
