Another issue with RB750, RB751 G/U

I’m noticing that lots of people are complaining about issues with wireless performance on RB751, and with sudden deaths (restore needed, etc).

  • Me on the other hand have another issue regarding both RB750 and RB751 G/U. Ten out of ten devices (mixed 750,751u/g) (ofcourse running the latest RouterOS) will once in a while for 30-90 seconds disappear. For the 571’s the wireless signal appears to be full (according to my laptop), and no problems there, but no packets comes through. For the 750’s, the same thing happens, even between the ports that are joined in a switchgroup.

Some times

  • Overall performance suddenly drops to 0.5-2mbit over both wireless and ethernet, and then maybe minutes after, it goes back to being super/normal.
  • Completely disappears for a minute a couple of times a week (like explained above), no CDP-packets or anything without indicating a reboot (uptime remains) during the “blackout”

How I use them
Usually as home office VPN (PPTP) clients against a remote RB1200)

  • wan w/dhcp client (nat out)
  • RIP (getting 10-20 routes throgh the pptp)
  • lan w/dhcp server
  • PPTP tunnel

But this doesn’t really seem to matter. As the same problem also occurs in a plain setup with wlan ap bridged against a ethernet switchgroup

I hope it’s a software issue? Anyone else got similar problems?

I have one RB750 and two RB751U. Got the RB750 first with it running 5.14. Eth1 was WAN with Eth2 through Eth5 being on a bridge with a wire going to each room. Powered by the brick it came with. No PoE. It ran great for 3 months. Then it just suddenly, for no apparent reason, stopped working on Eth1. WinBox connected directly to Eth1 could not find any devices! Logged into it via Eth3 which worked fine. Couldn’t surf the internet. Reset it to factory defaults and re-configured it all manually. Still Eth1 wouldn’t work. Finally, removed Eth5 from bridge, made it WAN and added Eth1 to replace Eth5 on the bridge. Then everything worked just fine and continues to do so.

Then comes the first RB751U. Bridged Eth1 through Eth4 and wlan, and made Eth5 into WAN. Used brick it came with for power. It worked great for 3 months and then, Eth5 stopped responding. WinBox on Eth5 could not find any devices. Logged in to it via Eth2. Couldn’t get out. Reset it to factory defaults and set it up again. Still no joy. Set Eth1 as WAN and Eth5 on the bridge. And it works fine.

Second RB751U, I made Eth2 WAN. Need I say what happened 3 months later?

What gives?
