Antenna Orientation and dual chain radios.

Hey guys, I have an interesting problem. I guess my decision on how to procede hinges on a couple fundamental holes in my wireless theory knowledge.

If I had a dual chain mikrotik router with external high gain antennas and getting the most thruput possible was not a priority could I do the following to widen the effective beam path of my AP? I want to reach far on my horizontal plane and also below the ap on the next floor.

  1. Use different Gain antennas on each chain i.e. 5db for 40 degree beam width and 9db for 25degrees?
  2. change the orientation of one of the antennas or both.
  3. Combination of 1 and 2?
  1. Each chain MUST have same impedance, cable lenght, and antenna gain, H/V or power is not important.

  2. The device on the other side must be able to answer… think about that…

You must have a 2W radio detectable from 10th floor to 1st floor, but the other device can not connect: no sufficent power to query AP…

alright, matching antennas it is. orientation doesnt matter then it will just change the horizontal plane of the second antenna and not give me true dual cahin unless both horizontal beams reach my target then, correct?
