I’m looking for a resource to get masts/poles and mounting brackets for outdoor antennas. I’ve looked at the local hardware store and see these types of items:
And the conduit is this, probably 2" but other sizes are available:
The hangers look like this:
The conduit was relatively tick and may be OK for outdoor use. The hangers seemed thin and not galvanized/zinc plated to prevent rust.
What’s a good resource to find these types of things? The mast will be attached to a vertical steel beam on the roof of an office building. We would either drill holes and tap into the beam or use metal strapping.
I would also look at the pipe ‘thickness’, i.e. The difference between the outer and inner diameters. The pipes in the photo do look a bit ‘thin’. This also depends on the length of the pipe you intend to use. If it’s half a meter then it might do the trick but if it’s longer, you need a more solid pipe.
We tend to over engineer our installs so when we need to attach other units to the same pole, we don’t have to change it.
Also, I use the word ‘pipe’ because we tend to go for pipe rather than conduit.
Regarding the bracket, I doubt that shall withstand high winds as it’s designed to hold the conduit pipe to a wall and not support an antenna or more units mounted vertically in a potentially windy environment.
Got this figured out, kept it as simple as possible. I just ended up using 1.5" galvanized conduit, 3/8" Grade 8 bolts, galvanized washers and galvanized nuts to act as spacers. Drilled holes into the steel beams of the building and tapped them using a Tap and Die kit. Turned out just fine.
