since I have to use external Antenna with the NetMetal AX, I would like to ask you for your suggestions. The characteristic of this AP should give a 360° Coverage like with Omni Antennas directly attached to the AP. And yes, I know, I can just use pigtails and any kind of Antenna, but I would like to hear some suggestions. This AP should be mounted outside on a wall and it should give Access to the network to everyone in the room behind the wall and outside about 20-30m around. Outside = Open Space without any obstacles.
Honestly these things are designed to be mounted to a mANT30 PA antennas.
Yes you ‘can’ do other antenna configs etc for the ax unit but if your looking for a full 360, your aiming for a 12 to 15db for an omni that’s not mounted very high( say ~2 to 3 meters), as you will have null signal or close to nothing at that those gain level both below and directly above the antennas.
Mikrotik Metal 52 ac or GrooveA 52 is ideal for the 360 stuff.
Theres plenty of 2.4 /5.8Ghz antenna’s with direct N sockets on them so its plug and play if you go a netmetal 52 etc.
Given your going to hear(RX) all sorts of stuff on an omni ( notably in urban environments ),set your AP to 20MHz for the best bet on reliability/distance.
Why should I go with the Metal 52 or the GrooveA 52? Both models are 8-9 years old and the Maximum Wifi Standard is ac (= Wifi 5). Currently we are at Wifi7. So I have no WPA3 and no PMF. I also have 1x1 MIMO with the older devices and 2x2 MIMO + OFDMA + MU-MIMO with the NetMetal ax.
