I’ve posted a question awhile ago about a cisco 340 bridge but i’ve bought a cisco 350 bridge aswell and tried it on mikrotik and once again same story, the cisco associates but i’m unable to ping and the cisco association table shows it is not authenticated. Is there any support for cisco on mikrotik?
Every time we have replaced a cisco solution with something else ( usually Mikrotik ) we have had a yank the whole thing… The Bridge/AP will
work with other brand clients, but none of the clients ( wgb/br/ap ) work
with anything else . Now, the pci cards , and the laptop cards do work,
and we have a few of these still in place.
Cisco is partially proprietary equipment, and doesn’t like to “play well with the other kids”, so to speak… I don’t know how much Cisco 350s cost you, but you can buy RB532s for about $150US to use for client devices that are multiple times more powerful than the Cisco 350. You should also note that Layer 2 bridged systems are somewhat “old school”, and not very secure by today’s standards…
If you need to use the 350, you could start by turning off every feature in the Cisco that even remotely look proprietary, and moving forward from there…
hitek146, please don’t confuse us. RB’s are just plain motherboards. Put in there WiFi card, Put Pigtail, Put licence and ure close to 450US not 150… pls
I’m not sure what happened to my last post about this, but…disabling the proprientary extensions, setting the packet encapsulation from 802.1H to RFC 1042, and setting the auth mode to open only (for the APs) will allow them to operate with damn near any other standard 802.11 AP or bridge.
Wirdo - I was talking about a Routerboard 532, which we use in our client devices. Buying in small quantities, we only spend about $180US for our boards with licenses, Atheros Mini-PCI cards, and pigtails all put together. At $450, you must be talking about the Routerboard 200 series…
Depending on the location, the use of a case and PoE inserter can vary, but I definitely don’t use the cases that are made for the RB532. The price I quoted didn’t include the case(about $8 ) or PoE injector(about $7), since they aren’t always used at every location…
To answer your question, the small quantities that I was referring to were in the 50ish range. Buy 50 at a time of xxxxx item, save many $$$$$$…
