Anyone else getting flooded by this forum?

This forum used to handle subscriptions by sending ONE notification if someone had updated a topic since you saw it, and wouldn’t bother you again no matter how many more updates occurred until you had gone to that topic to catch up. (It’s still advertised to do this.)

As of about two months ago, it has started sending a notification for EVERY update on a topic, regardless of how often you go there. For example, this morning I woke up to this:

That’s 70 messages between midnight and opening of business, and another 80 over the course of the day, almost all of them being from one topic.

Is anybody else seeing this, or am I the only one?

I have gone to my “user control panel” and unsubscribed from every topic I had listed, except for Announcements… and I’m STILL getting notifications for other threads!

Is there some other control somewhere else that I need to toggle to stop this behavior?

I am suffering by this too. Obviously mikrotik changed something…

Normis, please, can you set the notifications back like it was previously?

You should be able to change the notify setting from the following items in “User Control Panel”.

This is different thing. We are talking about repetitive notifications from one topic received last days while there was only first notification previously regardless how many posts were added from our last visit.

No changes to forum settings in last weeks. When did this start ?

I was able to find the repetitive notifications till January/February.

Maybe we are overreacting, while we are expecting behavior that is not there… How it should behave? Shall we receive only one notification about the “new” post until we visit the topic again, or shall we receive notification per each post ever created in the topic?

PHPBB has no settings that control this. Either you get notified about every new reply, every time, or you turn it off.

I first complained about this January 25 [Ticket#2018012522004794]. I got a couple of suggestions that didn’t improve anything, then the ticket has been dead since the 31st.

Sorry, normis, this is patently false. This worked fine in the past. If you take the time to read the text of the email message, it even says so:

You are receiving this notification because you are watching the topic
“v6.42.1 [current]” at “MikroTik”. This topic has received a reply by
strods since your last visit. No more notifications will be sent until you
visit the topic.

This behavior changed in January. Stuff is now broken.

A month later, still crickets.

Is anybody working this problem at all?

I don’t even believe I ever visited “LHG 60 project in Hawaii,” so I don’t know why I’m even getting mail for that. But that’s a minor aspect of the problem.

I would also appreciate if the forum could send just first notice and not the subsequent emails until the topic is visited again.

I have also noticed this change in behaviour. I’m not subscribed to popular topics, so I’m not exactly flooded with messages. It did surprise me when I got two or three notifications for the same topic before I had time to go look at the topic.
