Anyone who successfully install wifiwave2 on cAP ac with 256M RAM ?

Hi,
Fortunately, I found my cap ac is with 256M RAM, so I decided to try the 7.1beta4 with wave2.

But somehow I cannot install the extra package of wifiwave2, reboot for a couple of times and it still cannot installed.

Anyone who has install the wave2 successfully on cap ac with 256M RAM ?

Thank you !

Surely log has something regarding failed package installation?

My bad, I forgot to check the log !

Since it didn’t work, I downgraded to 6.47.9 and restore the backup as a CAP (managed by CAPsMAN) after several failed trials on wave2.

I really hope there is a successful case out there with the 256M RAM cAP ac.

There was a discussion about required HW for wave2 drivers and disk size larger than 16MB was IIRC one of them. Supported devices (Audience, hAP ac3) have 128MB storage …

Probably it is because of the 16M storage size. The official documents said " it is required at least 10M free space" . cAP ac has total of 16M storage , most likely , there is no 10M left for wave2 package.

Also isn’t the new wifi package incompatible with Caps-Man?

@gotsprings,
Thank you for the reminder ! I noticed that it is not compatible with CAPsMAN before I tried to install the wave2. My problem is that I even cannot install the wave2 package on the device.

The actual firmware / kernel modul for IPQ40xx based devices (like cAP ac) would small enough to fit in a smaller wifiwave2 package which could be used on e.g. cAP ac with its 16MB of ROM. Unfortunately MikroTik hasn´t released anything like this.
Custom tools for creating your own *.npk packages (like https://github.com/kost/mikrotik-npk) don´t work unfortunately.

Let’s see if Mikrotik is willing to do something about it. Would be nice if the existing products out there could take the advantage of wave2.

You mean a 6 year old ratification?

Thats the point brg, you will absolutely be able to use wifi5 proper implementation of wave2, with Capac2, which has not been released yet :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
Dont hold your breath! If they do it will be around the time all other vendors have cleaned up their initial wifi6 releases.
