ap-bridge mode

Hi,

This is my first install of MT.

I have 2 interfaces:

  1. ether1 - Ethernet
  2. wavelan1 - Wavelan

The ether1 is ok and I´m using winbox the access the MT.

At wavelan1 I can only set up mode: ad-hoc and infrastructure, how can I add “ap-bridge” (as seen at demo.mt.lv), so I can build an AP to the clients?

Regards,

Ari

do you have the correct licence for an AP ?

Apparently, Wavelan devices aren’t supported in AP mode, though Proxim currently does include this functionality in their windows driver. Perhaps it’s a licensing issue?

It’s more because MikroTik doesn’t really care about developing Prism/Hermes support very much these days. The focus clearly is on Atheros based cards. And if you look around here in the forum you’ll find that MOST people do you Atheros based cards nowadays.

Not meaning to comment on the quality of the other chipsets in any way, just stating a fact

Best regards,
Christian Meis

That seems to ring true, that they concentrate development on the Atheros based chipsets.

That being said, it’d be nice to see some better support for the Prism chipset, in particular being able to see a reading of noise levels.

I can understand the Hermes issue though, as that is some pretty old hardware. Still, they are very good radios.

wavelan does not support AP mode in any driver. the card is old and does not have such functionality at all. it is not a driver issue. it’s just not meant for that purpose

It does, in fact, support AP mode in the windows driver. I’ve done it. Note that I don’t mean the stock windows driver, I mean the one you can get from Proxim - or at least used to be able to, I haven’t downloaded a new version in over a year.

It’s also totally untrue to say “it is not ment for that purpose” as the AP-500, AP-1000 and other older Lucent/Orinoco/Proxim AP units use the SAME cards as you would buy for your PC. They work very, very well for access points.

Our WISP used the AP-1000 for several years, until after they had ceased production (bought them on ebay). The AP-1000 was an excellent AP, because the Hermes (Orinoco) radios are very good radios! We still have 7 of these units in service, though over time lightning has taken its’ toll - out here in the midwest the summer thunderstorms can be highly electrical, and nothing can protect you from a direct strike :frowning:

Anywho, of the 7 out there in service, some are as many as 6 years old! We’ll run them until they die, then replace them with Mikrotik
