Hello people, i have a problem. I installed an routerboard 133 with an ubiquiti SR2 wireless card in AP mode for a small office with 11 clients, all client have a SMC wireless card with Atheros Chipset, the office have 10 X 30 Mts and de AP is in the middle of the office. The antenna is an small omni for indoor.
The first and the more important problem is that some clientes lose the conection for
Small irregular intervals (With a length of 3 - 6 seconds)
Causing a malfunction of the enterprise system.
Other problem is that all clients are connect at 11Mbps, How can I do to connect the clients At least to 20 mbps.
I try to find the problem but i don’t have success, can give me a hand.
What power supply are you using for the RB133? Some AtherOS based wireless cards draw too much current for the 12V power unit to handle resulting in frequent system crashes, change to 48V power unit. Don’t forget to set the voltage range on the RB133 correctly, it usually comes set to 48V. If you’re using a 12V power supply maybe you’ve left the power selector on 48V?
Check that the frequency you are using has no other APs on it. If not possible, choose the channel with least interference. Use Netstumbler to see what other units are in your locality. Don’t forget there are only 3 non-overlapping channels, 1, 6 & 11 (2412, 2437 & 2462).
The second problem sounds like you’re working at 2.4GHz 802.11b, make sure the RB133 is set for B/G mode. If you still only get 11Mbps, then check your PC wireless cards, maybe they’re only 802.11b.
The RB133 is NOT 802.3af compliant, maximum voltage is 28v!
Do all clients drop at the same time? Is there a regular interval between drops? This sounds like it might be a problem with the clients more than the AP.
Whoops, my mistake, most of my units are RB532s running on 48V, I only have one RB133 and thought that was running on 48V too, I’ll have to check I’m not frying it!
However, I have still seen instability problems with some high powered AtherOS based cards. I had problems with the Senao 8602, but the Wistron CM9 and RouterBoard R52 work fine.
What point release of v2.9? You should be on v2.9.49, if not then upgrade.
If it is random disconnection, then it sounds like RF interference. This could be coming from badly suppressed electrical equipment, e.g. motors and fans. To analyse this properly you would need an expensive Spectrum Analyser, however you can sometimes diagnose interference using an ordinary FM radio. Tune the radio to a station with a weak signal and see if you get any intermittent interference, tuning to a station with a strong signal won’t help as this will likely not be affected by the interference.
Actually i forget set the B/G mode, when i do that Automatically the clients Connected to 54 Mbps.
Apparently the problems of the disconectión is in the clients, the SO (windows XP) Seems to be destroyed, because we change one of the clients PC with trouble and then everthing works fine and never disconect again.
There are 2 Neighbor networks working in chanel 11 and 10, i put my rb in chanel 1 and all clients Disconnected, so then i change the chanel to 6 and then works fine.
