For a 711G 5Hn device, the instructions say “do not apply power without antenna attached”.
For our application, the antenna WILL become detached, as part of a physical crash test, but the test is over upon impact. The router is physically protected, but the antenna is not.
I would like to know if we could put a 50 ohm dummy load on one of the antenna ports, and a real antenna on the other. The real antenna will get torn off, leaving the dummy load attached.
Would this prevent damage to the device when the real antenna becomes detached?
Would the real antenna still be operational in this case (while it was attached), or would there be degradation in signal strength by having the dummy load attached?
Would it be possible to disable the Chain0 at the time of impact (via script or remote command)? You woud lose the wireless connection in the last moment, but removing of the antenna would do the same anyway.
Also it could be possible to put the dummy load between the antenna and the MMCX connector, so that when the antenna is removed, something remains plugged into the connector.
Without going into a lot of details, we do not actually know in advance if there will be a crash, only that one is possible. So disabling the transmitter just before a crash is not possible.
I think you are suggesting that we create a break-away switch so that when the antenna is torn off it engages a dummy load. Maybe that’s not what you mean, but regardless, I’m not sure how to design such a thing.
