Hello. We have an 2011UiAS which is used in a restaurant for the office machines, a POS (payment system) and a guest wifi. Currently we’ve had AmplifiHD mesh system as guest wifi, but they are extremely closed in terms of configuration and obtaining logs (no logging possible, only encrypted ones for Ubiquiti support team). Lately we’ve experienced freeze in the AmplifiHD (one out of 3, it’s impossible to tell which one, as no logging is available and the problem seems to be coming and going with all three routers (unless the faulty one messes up any of the other two)). I’ve set up netwatch, but this will only see the first mesh point (connected to 2011UiAS). If any of the two other mesh points go down, I don’t get notification. We’re planning to replace them with 3 other APs going through an unmanaged switch (or maybe use three interfaces on the 2011UiAS. Any suggestions? And will there be any added value to select Mikrotik? Will they be configurable in the same winbox session as the 2011UiAS? Which Mikrotik can be recommended? Both for price and for speed (i’m not sure if we should choose 2.4GHz or 5GHz). I’m not “married” to Mikrotik, but I love how everything is so configurable down to the smallest software parts, I love the scripting, and the price-value.
Also, we want a seamless wifi handover. The AmplifiHD has been performing like a dream, both for speed and for handover to various meshpoints throughout the restaurant (it’s a difficult building in terms of RF; thick concrete walls and ceilings separating the levels, long and angled corridors, etc).
So, sum up:
-Which Mikrotik APs to select? Suggestions both for price and for features/bands/performance/etc.
-Added value of selecting Mikrotik with existing 2011UiAS, over any other brand? Seamless wifi handover etc.
-Mikrotik APs configurable in same winbox session as 2011UiAS?
-Hardware setup suggestions (switch, directly to 2011UiAS, or other)?
Any help is appreciated.
