Arghhhh.... after 48h with atheros troubleshooting....

hello all,

I was trying to setup a wireless router using atheros cards (Planet WL-8310 v3).
As usual, i was configuring the ethernet interface, and i was trying to enable the wireless ones..

But, was getting kernel panic !
i tried 3 different computers, i changed all pci slots, and almost all different bios settings…
This was going the last 48 hours…

When i finally decided to get a picture and a supout.rif file, to send them to MT support, i got an idea…

When you put an atheros card into a MT router, the default setting is in 802.11a band !
So when i was using console to enable the card (/interface enable 1), it was trying to enable the card in 5Ghz band, with kernel panic of course…

When i changed the band, without enabling the card, and after this i enabled it, everything worked fine…

I post this to prevent other people from having the same trouble with me…

p.s. Dear MT developers, why dont you use 2.4Ghz-B band as the default ?

hi lewis,

this is not problem of MT guys, this is Planet’s limitation - they use chipset which supports 5GHz and they intentionally disabled it. My config, intel 440bx chipset (qdi legend MB), celeron366, 64Mb ram, 520MB hdd WD, AGP Matrox card and another duron machine with sis748 chipset, doesn’t crash with this card when I enable 5GHz - even turbo is possible

bye, mp3turbo.
