Asking for help with LTE connection

Hi!

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I have an RBwAPR-2nd with LTE modem (RouterOS 7.15), and also an LHG LTE6 (RouterOS 6.47.10). This problem applies to both devices. We have three major carriers in Hungary. Yettel, Vodafone and Telekom. I have SIM cards from all of them, it’s the same issue with all three, that’s why I think I’m setting up someting incorrectly in the devices. I insert the SIM card, set the APN correctly. It connects to the carrier’s network, I’m getting an IP address, I see the current operator, SINR, RSRP and RSSI. But I still don’t have internet access on my laptop. I can’t ping anything (1.1.1.1, 8.8.8.:sunglasses: other that the device itself ofc. The SIM cards are working, because if I put them in a phone, it’s working perfectly. PIN code is disabled. If I reset the routers to factory defaults while the sim card is in the device, it will work after but only with that operator. So if I change the card, set the correct APN, it will provide the issue expalined above. Recently I made a backup right after factory reset with all the different sim cards, when they were working. If I load these setups, it will also work. What setup am I missing during sim card change? Thank you for your help!

You may need to make sure “Use Network APN” is UNCHECK in Interface > LTE > LTEs APN. If use-network-apn=yes / “checked” in the APN profile. the APN is IGNORED.

You also may want to make sure the routerboard firmware is update-to-date too. Check in System > RouterBoard > Update.

Similar with LTE modem, there is a “Check Firmware” on the LTE interface.

In nearly all cases, you want to run the latest stable for all THREE version things: RouterOS, RouterBOOT, & LTE modem. But I’m guessing it’s the “Use Network APN” is checked…

Check also if the ttl is an issue (some carriers do not want their devices used for “roaming” to further devices) see:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/how-to-set-router-ttl/146028/1
You may need to experiment with values, usually it should be 65 or 255.

Usually, you only need to mess with the TTL for a SIM card meant for a regular phone or an extra “twin card” for a tablet with an unlimited data plan that you put in a router. This can sometimes be a lot cheaper than getting a dedicated mobile broadband SIM card, but things are slowly changing in that regard.

EDIT:
The IMEI number is also a fairly common way to check if a device is purchased to be used for a specific carrier. In that case, you need to change the IMEI in the Mikrotik device.

Did you set up the firewall corretly? You need to set up a src NAT rule (masquarade)! And you need to set up “Use peer DNS and Add default route”!

Yeah, that’s probably correct if the default configuration has been wiped on the LHG. And on the wAP, the LTE interface has to be added to the WAN interface list.
