Asus P5MT-M Server Board and Routerboard 44 = 2MB max throug

I put together a Mikrotik router using the following…

New Asus P5MT-M Server Board
New Intel 631 P4 3.0 Ghz Processor w/ Chipset = Northbridge - Intel E7230/ Southbridge - Intel ICH7R
New 1 GB Corsair DDR2 Ram
New Routerboard 44 PCI card
and of course the MIkrotik 2.9 IDE Flash.

I have a verified and tested 20mb connection plugged into port 4 (routerboard 44 port closeest to the motherboard.)

I have a server connected to routerboard 44 port 3.

They are connected with verified, Fluke tested, cat 5 cables under 5 feet.

I have VLAN’s setup, OSPF setup, and thats it, no QOS, but I am running outside any of any of the VLAN’s because the server is directly connected to the router.

Senerio #1 - Server directly connected to 20mb connection at 100 Full = 20mb up and down from speakeasy.net/speedtest.

Senario #2 - Server directly connected to Mikrotik routerboard 44 port 3 at 100 Full; 20MB connection connected to port #4 on the Mikrotik routerboard 44 = 2mb up and 2mb down!?!?

Senario #3 - Mikrotik to Mikrotik Speedtest using the Mikrotik speedtest through the 20mb connection. = 2mb max???

Senario #4 - Moved everything from port #3, on the routerboard 44, to port #5 located on the Mikrotik’s Asus P5MT-M Motherboard. Server directly connected to the Mikrotik router on port #5 (motherboard port) = Test to speakeasy.net/speedtest = 20mb up and down!!!

Senario #5 - Server directly connected to the Mikrotik router on port #5 at 100 full, with 30 users each on their own VLAN. Total throughput on port #5 at time of test 900kbps to 1.2mb and cpu usage at 1-3% = Test to speakeasy.net/speedtest = 500 - 700kbps?!?!

Why? is it the motherboard, chipset, routerboard issues? Any Ideas?

What is the ‘RECOMENDED’ Mikrotik motherboard/chipset for heavy +20mb usage? All the suppliers in the US only sell old 533mhz and 1ghz 128mb ram rat boards for $500+; can we use anthing other than that?

Hello,

We tried several different motherboards including Asus, but found the Intel motherbords to be the best with fewest problems. I have heard SuperMicro motherboards are also a good match for MikroTik.

Best,
