Atheros 8327 VLAN support!?!?

Dear Mikrotik,

I appreciate all your good hardware and software, with one exception. Since passing from Atheros 8316 to Atheros 8327 we lost VLAN trunking functionality! E.g. it’s now impossible to do the vlan trunking described here:

http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Switch_Chip_Features

Recently I decided to buy 4 x RB750GL and I now feel somewhat ripped off.

Firstly I thought I would buy RB250GS, but then since the RB750GL seemed to be able to do everything RB750GL did + some (low performance but interesting) router functionality, and for a small price increase, I thought I would go for that one.

After receiving and testing those, I now realize that in RB750GL almost all VLAN support is missing! I should have bought RB250GS instead.
I basically have to throw them away and buy the RB250GS instead.
This problem is not advertised enough!

Yesterday I was looking for RB750G (earlier version of RB750GL, still with the older Atheros 8316) which should be capable of VLAN trunking, but it’s very difficult to find it for sale (out of production maybe?).

But still feel lucky, compared to what happened to this guy:
http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/trunk-accessports-on-rb1100ahx2/53405/1

He bought a top-of-the-line RB1100AHx2 (about $480) to find out that while passing from RB1100AH to RB1100AHx2 you decided to “upgrade” the Atheros chip from 8316 to 8327 (not documented ANYWHERE) so now he has not got VLAN functionality! And this problem on RB1100AHx2 is not advertised ANYWHERE!!
This page
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Switch_Chip_Features
says that Atheros8316 is present in RB1100series (one supposes RB1100AHx2 is part of RB1100 series) hence it is possible to do vlan trunking on it, and this is wrong.

I am quite confident that Atheros 8327 has got vlan functionality, so would you please enable it? At least command-line please?

And if 8327 really doesn’t have vlan functionality, would you please stop using it and continue with 8316?
That’s too much a basic feature for not having. Any managed switch layer2 or layer3 has got vlan functionality! People expect that to be present.

Thank you
I.R.

Hi,

The AR8327/AR8327N is a highly integrated seven-port Gigabit Ethernet switch with a fully non-blocking switch fabric. Full VLAN support including QinQ and VLAN tag insertion and removal. VLAN translation and mapping.

What I would like to know is, if the Chip can do QinQ, what happened to the VLAN “Trunk”, can I encapsulate only 1 VLAN 12 times, or must the VLANs for encapsulation arrive as a “Trunk” or already encapsulated?

Or are there new firmware to be released soon?

Seems like the AR8327 has problems with VLAN filtering / mangling. This could explain why VLAN filtering is disabled.

Would be better to revert to the AR8316…

Problem resolved?
Or hardware problem switch chip
