… the idea of Virtual AP to limit 10 clients per SSID, so 2 or 3 VAPs with 10 clients each should do.
Requires Atheros AP and at least RB500.
What would be interesting to find out is the sequence the master (wireless ap) interface associates clients.
Would it process one ssid then another or otherwise?
I’m not having the reconnect problem on my network BUT I just did some tinkering with this idea.. I created 15 virtual AP’s with the same name.. I set max-station-count=3 and I also set the master AP to max-station-count=3.. I placed all of the Virtual AP’s into a bridge which has the ip settings and whatnot..
Anyway I have 39 clients connecting to this ap.. When I disable and reenable the master interface to make all of the clients reconnect, some of the virtual AP’s have 3 clients while others have none..
If your using access lists this is going to drive you nuts.. You’d have to setup an access list entry for every client on every virtual ap.. or only allow 3 clients to connect to each virtual ap and the client would just try to associate to every ap untill it found the one that it was allowed to connect to.. Or use radius..
I’m really curious to see if this helps anyone who’s having this problem..

Your trial suggests that the APs (“with same name”) are process one after the other, hence the unused APs, this may be a good thing for those having this problem.
Its a good idea to set max-station-count=xx
I hope it tells the AP to stop listening to further associations.
The maual does not suggest anything
