Hello, Upgrading from T1 to metro ethernet from AT&T unmanaged solution. I plan on using mikrotik router instead of the cisco 2921 they use for a managed solution as I am already using mikrotik throughout my network. I can’t pin anyone from AT&T down on exactly what i need on my end. Has anyone been down this road yet and know what to expect when they drop the fiber and walk away? thanks.
It’s metro e - it’s just like any other ethernet drop. Either get a router that has fiber ports, or - more likely - get a media converter. Plug it in, configure the WAN for static IP or DHCP, configure router from there. There is absolutely nothing special about it.
Thanks, appreciate that. Any specific media converter that comes to mind? My supplier has several different models just not sure which model to order.
Depends on what kind of fiber ATT is dropping. They can tell you, tell your supplier, he can then recommend a model. Or ask ATT for a recommendation, even.
