Audience Frequency

dear mikrotik,

i received two unit of the brand new audience from my friend to be reviewed.

what i found are :

  • wlan2 has been locked for frequency 5.1GHz-5.3GHz - support channel with 20/40/80 Mhz
  • wlan3 has been locked for frequency 5.7GHz-5.8GHz - support channel with 20/40.80/160 Mhz

i understand the purpose, that is wlan2 will not interference with wlan3. so wlan3 (quad chain) will be used for backbone (ptp and or ptmp) among audiences and wlan2 (dual chain) will be used for gadgets. but according to my test, most of the gadgets does not support frequency locked on wlan2.

according to this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels#cite_note-N5001000-42), no frequencies on wlan3 (5.7GHz-5.8GHz) that support 160 MHz, it only available on wlan2 (frequency 5.1GHz-5.3GHz). I did try to choose channel width 160 Mhz XXXXXXXX on wlan3, but no channel / frequency available. Channel width 160MHz option also does not available on wlan2

therefore, we would like to suggest you to swap the frequency locked on wlan2 and wlan3

thank you

Paul

But you can change your config, and swap the WLAN2/WLAN3.
OK this will not swap the number of spatial streams.2X2/4x4
This must be the US (FCC) version of the Audience ?
Laptops, USB wifi dongles, smartphones … mostly support 5180MHz and up. Sometimes only up to 5320MHz , sometimes even up to 5700MHz.
The higher channels are not used in a large part of the world.

I thought that any 5GHz supporting device is able to communicate on channels 36 - 48. Only DFS channels (and sometimes 149 and above if applicable in selected country) gives problems sometimes. But…please correct me if I’m wrong.

nope… i got EU version.
all of my smartphones (me and my wife) does not support 5.1GHz-5.3GHz; only 5.7GHz-5.8GHz.

according to the block diagram, wlan1 and 2 using the same chipset IPQ4019, while wlan3 using different chipset; that is QCA9984. yes i can swap wlan2 and wlan3 but seems it not the main purpose. as both of them having different chains.

Don’t understand. Can be my fault, but European regulations allow only these frequencies to my knowledge.
What those 5.8GHz+ uneven channels for SRD (short range devices) brings is not clear to me . (Might learn something)

Could not find the spec of my Smartphone :frowning:

What country did you set?

See also: http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/audience/130165/49

yeah.. you right..
i did not see the brochure yet as they are not mine..

the country=no_country_set at the moment but i avoid to use 5.500MHz - 5.700MHz

Paul

Don’t have to tell you, but for the others reading this, no_country_set is quite limiting in frequencies, and … illegal to use in Europe.

Prawira.

I have audience and every device I owe (and which is 5G capable) can connect to WLAN 2 and WLAN 3 interface.
I have set country code to my country, so audience does support and choose local frequency bands.

If you don’t use country code, Audience might choose a channel which is not available in your country
and your phones won’t be able to connect as they are locked to the right channels automatically.
