On some systems running latest version of embedded coovachilli, chilli sends an auth-request to the radius servers when issuing the IP address, meaning a user that has an account on the hotspot system is authenticated through the hotspot with no need to log in - meaning things like email and other non-http applications work without having to load the browser.
If an access-reject is sent at this stage, they are shown the hotspot login pages when they try and access the internet?
Is there any way to mimic this behaviour in Mikrotik (I know I can use a MAC auth on the hotspot but its still browser reliant)
Bump.
I was going to try and have a look at this, but what with the other problem of an access point not working properly I’ve not had a chance to try.
Appears this is not possible as I can find no way to tie the radius reply from the DHCP request to also add the user as a hotspot user.
Would be a very nice feature though to be able to authenticate a user through the hotspot at the same time as giving them their dhcp address - no more browsers to open before granting access/splash pages etc.
My bad - all working now.
Every day I love Mikrotik a little more.
