Authentication: open or WEP ?

I’ve an old (and not a lot secure…) wifi network.

My XP connects succesfully to the routerboard 751U 2HnD, with the configuration mentioned below:

  • authentication: “open” (i’m a little surprised, but “WEP” don’t work),
  • cypher: WEP (on key 1),
  • WEP key: “0000” (test key !).

On the router: security profile:

  • General > Mode > Mode: Static Key Required,
  • General > Static Keys > Key 1 > 40 bit Wep > 0x: “0000000000”
  • General > Static Keys > Transmit Key > Key 1.

Using “St. Private Key” don’t resolve the problem.

What is the configuration on router to use “authentication WEP” on my old XP ?

Thanks for all.

Best regards.

Did you try this link? On the other hand there must be some sort of XP update on Microsoft’s download page that provides support for WPA2.
